the best of the week for me, see the link to this news: Design of Innovation hub in New Zealand https://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/article/1794375/scion-achieves-world-first-design-innovation-hub-new-zealand As New Zealand’s built environment is responsible for approximately 20% of the country’s carbon footprint, the country is keenly aware of the delicate balance between man and nature. Each source of timber must be sustainably certified to ensure that the carbon sequestration cycle continues. Built across three-storeys, it is believed that the structure is the first of its kind using a diagonal grid. With the use of its timber components, the building is also carbon-neutral. The designers calculated that the timber used within the structure has been regrown in 35 minutes by New Zealand planted forests. The structure stores 418 tonnes of CO2 equivalent for the life of the building, which is the same as someone flying 160 return trips from Auckland to London.
